Occupational therapy is a medical activity with the goal to enable the achievement of optimal functioning of an individual in everyday life activities.
It is intended for people whose abilities of performing them have been diminished and disturbed by development, injury, old age, psychologically, socially, or a combination of all mentioned. It is the relation between a functional difficulty and activities of everyday life and in cases of injuries and illnesses, it enables returning to the life most similar to the one that the patient previously had.
The main goal of the occupational therapy is to, through the rehabilitation, help a person be as independent and fulfiled as possible, and that is achieved by using certain patterns of movement that the person learns for the first time or again, step by step, with compensations, using tools, ergonomic adaptation or substitution of certain activities with other that the patient can perform on their own.
Occupational therapy is also a good prevention in cases of children who have been born with special needs, it provides development of sensorimotor as well as cognitive and social abilities. It helps to retain the existing life habits and interests and encourages people to train the skills they consider important. If needed, there is also a possibility to develop new ways to perform everyday activities. The sooner the occupational therapy is implemented in the process of rehabilitation, the sooner and faster the patient will be back to an active life. Occupational therapy greatly contributes to the improvement of the quality of life of each patient, his/her independence and freedom.
With the purpose of having the most permanent and highest quality results or rehabilitation, in the Polyclinic Glavić we offer the GLARTH protocol – a unique combination of neurorehabilitation therapies, conventional and robotic, individually created for adult patients and children, depending on their medical condition, clinical picture, diagnosis, physical shape and the goal of therapy agreed in coordination with the patient and relatives.
It is exactly this combination of conventional medicine and robotics that contributes to a more efficient and faster improvement in the rehabilitation than the one with classical therapy.
